Small team means wide scope. You own your work end-to-end — from prototype to deployment. No waiting three sprints for a sign-off.
Robotics, computer vision, embedded systems, software platforms and commercial delivery — you'll work across the full stack of what makes a product deployable.
Everyone here has chosen to work on hard problems. No office politics. No performance theatre. Just focus on shipping things that work in the real world.
Your work ends up on infrastructure assets, in tunnels, on rail networks. This is not a CRUD app company — we build systems that operate in physical environments.
From concept to field test in weeks, not months. We move fast, learn from real deployments and improve quickly — no death-by-committee development cycles.
Headquartered in Australia, deploying into international infrastructure projects. The work is local enough to maintain quality, broad enough to matter globally.
Our internship program isn't a coffee run and ticket queue. It's a structured challenge — designed to take you across the real technical and commercial work of building industrial automation from first principles.
Every intern receives a real challenge brief at the start of their program. You work toward it. You present outcomes. You leave with something you actually built.
We accept a small number of interns per year — robotics, software, computer vision and commercial tracks. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
You receive a real problem we're working on — not a toy project. Scoped to be achievable in your program duration, meaningful enough to matter.
You work alongside people in robotics, software, commercial and operations. You see how a real product gets built and deployed — not just your corner of it.
Where appropriate, interns join site visits and field deployments. You see your work — or something close to it — operating in the real environment it was designed for.
At program close you present your work to the full NXTGEN team — what you built, what you learned, and what comes next. Real feedback, not a participation trophy.
Strong interns are considered for junior roles as positions open. We prefer hiring people we've already worked with — and the internship is how we find them.
Design, build and deploy robotic systems for infrastructure inspection — from hardware integration through to autonomous mission execution in uncontrolled environments.
Train and deploy defect detection models for real inspection environments — handling class imbalance, domain shift, and edge deployment constraints for industrial-grade reliability.
Design firmware and hardware interfaces for robotic inspection platforms — sensor integration, motor control, comms protocols and power management for field-hardened systems.
Build the NXTGEN platform — mission management, inspection data ingestion, defect reporting pipelines and the dashboards that operators actually use in the field.
Design and maintain the pipelines that move high-volume inspection data from field devices to analysis and reporting — reliability and latency matter more than elegance here.
Own pipeline development across infrastructure, rail and construction sectors — from first meeting through to commercial close. You understand the procurement landscape and can navigate long sales cycles with technical counterparts.
Architect and scale a cloud platform ingesting point clouds, high-res imagery and sensor data for automated defect detection — bridging full-stack applications with AI microservices.
One engineering problem, one intern team, in a dedicated environment away from client work. Mechanical, electrical, PCB, control systems, sensors and software, with hands-on build and test time on our in-house robots. Hybrid, Melbourne based. For university students completing industry work experience.
